Get ready for a delicious twist on a breakfast favorite with these Banana Waffles drizzled with chocolate. The chocolate part being 100% optional, but oh my! How can you not?! Simple and easy to make for weekend mornings!

Chocolate Drizzled Banana Waffles are like taking a walk down comfort lane. Reminiscent of classic banana bread, these waffles are filled with bananas and accented by cinnamon and vanilla. What makes them a little decadent is that oh-so-divinely delicious chocolate sauce… warmed.

Oh, yum!

Can you say comfort food mornings? Late-night snacks?

Yep — me too.

This recipe will yield around 8 square Belgian waffles or around 5, 7-inch waffles.

The chocolate sauce? Your choice. Make it easy with store-bought… or up the yum factor by making your own. But honestly, either way, they are amazingly delicious. I mean… banana and chocolate? They’re meant to be together!

Ingredients for Banana Waffles

The exact ingredient measurements are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post, but here’s an overview of the pantry ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Brown sugar for sweetening but you can also substitute an equal amount of honey or maple syrup to keep it refined sugar free
  • Baking powder and salt
  • Ground cinnamon and vanilla extract for flavor
  • Cooking oil, use a neutral oil like vegetable oil or melted coconut oil is delicious too
  • Milk: dairy or nondairy both work great
  • Bananas: make sure the banana are ripe for best flavor
  • Large egg
  • Chocolate sauce for drizzling (store-bought or homemade chocolate sauce)

How to Make Banana Waffles

A quick overview of how to make these delicious waffles. Step by step instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post, including how to keep them warm.

  1. Heat a waffle iron on high heat.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients.
  3. Combine the the oil and milk together, then whisk in mashed bananas, egg, and vanilla.
  4. Whisk both the dry ingredients and wet ingredients together taking care not to overmix!

  • Heat a waffle iron on high heat and preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit for warming.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.

  • In a small bowl, combine the oil and milk. (If using coconut oil, melt in the microwave for 30 seconds or until it is lukewarm). Whisk in the mashed bananas, egg, and vanilla extract.

  • Into the dry ingredients, whisk in the oil and milk mixture and stir until just combined. Be careful not to over mix and make the waffles tough.

  • Pour waffle batter onto the heated waffle iron. Cover all of the center and most of the edges if using a square Belgium waffle iron. When the waffles are a deep golden brown, transfer in a single layer to a baking sheet. Place in the oven to keep warm while you’re making additional waffles.

  • When ready to serve, top waffles with sliced bananas and drizzle warmed chocolate sauce over the top. Oh, yum!
