Yesterday, Chanel and I had an entire discussion around the fact that pears are totally underrated. Often lumped in with apples as rather unsexy fruit, they’re actually luxuriously sweet, gorgeous to look at and pair (no pun intended) perfectly with creamy cheeses and good wine. And since pears are undeniable symbols of autumn, I knew I wanted to incorporate them into today’s Tasting. The weather’s still pretty balmy here in Austin, so I dreamed up this cocktail recipe using chilled prosecco, paper-thin slices of pears and my current favorite ingredient, candied ginger. It all came together as a drink that’s destined to be my go-to cocktail for parties this fall. Keep reading for more images and the recipe…
Ginger-Pear Sangria
- 1 cup apple juice
- 1/2 cup pear-flavored vodka (I used Grey Goose La Poire)
- 1 bottle prosecco (or other sparkling wine)
- 1/4 cup thinly-sliced candied ginger, plus a few pieces reserved for garnish
- 1 bartlett pear, sliced
Fill a pitcher 1/3 full with ice. Add apple juice, ginger and pear vodka; stir.
Add pear slices to pitcher, reserving a few for garnish. Let sit in refrigerator for a few hours so all the flavors marinate.
When ready to serve, fill remainder of pitcher with prosecco and serve. Serve in tall glasses, and garnish with small picks threaded with reserved candied ginger and pear slices.
