Spread the Love
This is the Best Apple Crisp with fresh sliced apples in cinnamon and topped with a buttery, crispy oat topping. This old fashioned apple crisp will make you feel warm and cozy.
Apple crisp is an ultimate fall dessert. When the weather turns cool, you just think of cinnamon and apples. Not only do you get the impact of a great dessert but the smell in your house will be wonderful. Apples and cinnamon are just a big hug when combined together. Fall has not really begun, until I have made my first batch. Not that you can only eat it in the fall. You can have a bit of fall anytime of the year.

Best Apple Crisp Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 7-8 medium apples (about 10 cups) sliced or chopped
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Topping
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
Cooking Tips
- If you do not want to peel your apples, you do not have to. Apple crisp is delicious with the peel and without peel.
- I love to use Granny Smith apples for baking. Gala apples, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, or any tart apple would also work well, so choose your favorite.
- Cut your apples thin enough so they can cook through and not be crunchy.
- If you want to make peeling the apples faster, use an apple peeler.
- Serve with whipping topping, caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream. You can even put it all on top.
How to make this classic best apple crisp
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare your 9×13″ pan with nonstick spray.
- Peel your apples (unless you chose to leave the skins on). Then, slice as evenly as you can, so you don’t have some slices cooked more or less than others. Place the apples in a large bowl and mix in cinnamon, brown sugar, flour, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Gather together your topping ingredients.
- In another large bowl, mix together old-fashioned oats, flour, cinnamon, brown sugar, baking powder.
- Next, you want to use your stick of butter, right out of the refrigerator, so it is very cold. Use a pastry cutter or your hands and mix it with your topping ingredients, until very crumbly.
- Spread your apples into your prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle your topping over the top of the apples.
- Bake in 375 degree oven for 35-45 minutes or until juices are bubbling and topping is golden brown.
- Allow to cook at least 5 minutes, then serve with ice cream, caramel sauce, or just plain. Cover and store in refrigerator up to 5 days.
